Over 50 years of History: Serving British Industry

Founded in 1960 by Alf Robinson, Engweld originally began as a retailer of ex-army surplus tools, operating from a small corner shop in Hull. Recognising a gap in the Humberside market for the supply of welding equipment, Alf opened a Grimsby store in 1964 and steadily increased the company's sales of welding tools and equipment.

In 1967, the company started to trade industrial gases, operating as a gas agent. The business went from strength to strength and a year later the Derby depot was opened and the Hull activity was moved to larger premises where shortly after Oxygen filling operations began.

In 1973, the Grimsby depot expanded its activity and began filling Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). Recognising the benefits of being an independent gas supplier, the company began its cylinder investment programme and in 1984 incorporated Energas Limited as the trading arm for the Group's gases, with Engweld continuing to focus on sales of welding equipment. Since becoming an independent supplier in 1987, the business has continually developed, generating an excellent reputation for both quality and service. This has resulted in growth and further geographical expansion.
